Thrown is a Swedish metalcore band formed in Stockholm in 2019. The group consists of vocalist Marcus Lundqvist, guitarists Johan Liljeblad and Andreas Malm, and drummer and producer Buster Odeholm, who is also known for his work with Humanity’s Last Breath and Vildhjarta. Since their formation, Thrown have emerged as one of the most talked-about new acts in modern heavy music, blending metalcore, hardcore, and nu-metal influences into an intense and highly recognizable sound.
The band was founded when Marcus Lundqvist and Andreas Malm decided to create a heavier and more contemporary project than their previous musical ventures. They soon brought in Buster Odeholm, initially as a producer, before he became a full member of the band. Guitarist Johan Liljeblad completed the lineup, establishing the foundation for a sound that would quickly attract attention within the international metal community.
Thrown first gained significant momentum through a series of singles and the release of their breakthrough EP “Extended Pain” in 2022. The record resonated strongly with fans of modern heavy music and accumulated tens of millions of streams across digital platforms. Their combination of compact song structures, crushing breakdowns, aggressive riffs, and modern production helped them rapidly build an international audience.
In 2024, the band released their debut full-length album, “EXCESSIVE GUILT.” Featuring eleven tracks with a total running time of just over twenty minutes, the album showcased the group’s commitment to intensity and efficiency while further defining their musical identity. The release strengthened their reputation as one of the most promising new names in contemporary metalcore.
Despite being a relatively young band, Thrown have already achieved considerable success on the live circuit. They have toured throughout Europe and North America, appeared at major festivals, and built a strong reputation for their energetic performances. Their rapid rise was recognized through major industry accolades, including the Heavy Music Award for Best Breakthrough Live Artist in 2024 and Best Breakthrough Album in 2025.
Today, Thrown are regarded as one of the fastest-rising acts in modern heavy music. By combining the aggression of hardcore, the weight of metalcore, and contemporary production techniques, they have established themselves as a significant force within the new generation of international metal bands.
