The Slow Readers Club

The Slow Readers Club is an English indie/alternative rock band from Manchester, formed in 2009. The lineup consists of Aaron Starkie (vocals), Kurtis Starkie (guitar, backing vocals), James Ryan (bass), and David Whitworth (drums). The band originated from an earlier project named Omerta before taking on their current name. They released their debut album in 2011, featuring both older tracks and new material that quickly resonated as emotionally charged indie anthems. Their follow-up, Cavalcade (2015), solidified their presence, while Build a Tower (2018) broke into the UK Top 20, opening doors to larger venues and headline festival performances. They continued scaling new heights with The Joy of the Return (2020) entering the UK Top 10, and Knowledge Freedom Power (2023) delivering bold, anthemic tunes that paved the way for their seventh album, Out of a Dream, set for release on March 14, 2025. Renowned for their intense live performances, The Slow Readers Club blend post-punk and electronic textures with introspective, often dark lyrics, all wrapped in infectious melodies that take listeners on emotionally cathartic journeys.
