The Chemical Brothers are a British electronic music duo who pioneered the big beat genre. They were formed by Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands in 1989 in Manchester. They began as DJs at The Heavenly Social club, experimenting with hip-hop, house, and rave music. Initially known as The Dust Brothers, they changed their name due to the existence of an American production duo with the same name.
Their debut album, Exit Planet Dust (1995), was successful, reaching number 9 on the UK Albums Chart. Their follow-up album, Dig Your Own Hole (1997), brought them international fame, featuring hit singles like "Block Rockin' Beats" and "Setting Sun." The album topped the UK chart and became their best-selling record.
Subsequent albums include Surrender (1999), Come with Us (2002), Push the Button (2005), We Are the Night (2007), Further (2010), Born in the Echoes (2015), and No Geography (2019). Each of these albums achieved commercial success and critical acclaim.
Their ninth album, No Geography, won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2020. In September 2023, they released their tenth studio album, For That Beautiful Feeling, which also received positive reviews and a Grammy nomination.
The Chemical Brothers are known for their high-energy live performances and innovative visual effects. Throughout their career, they have collaborated with numerous artists, including Beck, St. Vincent, Noel Gallagher, and Aurora.
