Texas is a Scottish rock band formed in 1986 in Glasgow. Despite the name, the band has no connection to the U.S. state. They quickly gained popularity in the UK and Europe with a distinctive sound that blends rock, pop, and soul elements. Lead singer Sharleen Spiteri, along with guitarist and bassist Johnny McElhone, form the core of the band, later joined by other members who enriched their musical expression.
Their first major success came with the single "I Don't Want a Lover" from their debut album Southside in 1989, which became a hit across Europe. Throughout the 1990s, Texas released a series of commercially successful albums, including Mothers Heaven and Ricks Road. The pinnacle of their career came in 1997 with the album White on Blonde, which became their best-selling record and established them as one of the most famous British groups of the era.
In the following years, the band continued releasing albums such as The Hush, Careful What You Wish For, and Red Book. After a brief hiatus, Texas reunited, continuing to produce music and perform live. Their later albums, including The Conversation and Jump on Board, found success in Europe, while their most recent album Hi demonstrated that the band still maintains high popularity. Over their career, Texas has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide and remains one of Scotland’s most recognized musical groups.
