Seven That Spells is an experimental psychedelic rock band from Zagreb, formed in 2003. Originally a power trio, the band has recorded and performed with over sixty musicians throughout its history. Alongside founder Niko Potočnjak, bassist Jeremy White joined in 2009, and their sound evolved toward a modern, aggressive psychedelic style, often incorporating polyrhythms and ritualistic, almost ceremonial elements.
They made a significant mark with performances at Roadburn Festival in 2009 and Duna Jam festivals in 2010 and 2012. Their most memorable live act was performing the full trilogy The Death and Resurrection of Krautrock—consisting of AUM (2011), IO (2014), and OMEGA (2018)—back-to-back at Roadburn 2019, an epic and immersive experience.
Their discography is defined by intense, often lengthy psychedelic compositions that slowly build atmosphere into an explosive crescendo. The album Superautobahn features three epic tracks—“The Wall,” “The Pyramid,” and “The Colossus”—each ranging from 11 to 22 minutes, filled with hypnotic riffs and drone textures. Albums like Black Om Rising venture into experimental noise rock with saxophone, frenetic guitars, and frenetic rhythms.
Seven That Spells blend free jazz, krautrock, space, and psych rock with improvisation and analog energy. Their music takes listeners on an organic trip through layers of guitar, saxophone, and pulsating rhythms, embodying an authentic and vibrant voice in the Croatian and global underground scene.
