Riverside is a Polish progressive rock band formed in 2001 in Warsaw. The founding members are Mariusz Duda (vocals, bass guitar), Piotr Grudziński (guitar), Piotr Kozieradzki (drums), and Jacek Melnicki (keyboards). Their music features a blend of atmospheric rock, progressive structures, and metal elements, which helped them develop a distinctive sound and gain a loyal fanbase worldwide.
Their debut album Out of Myself (2004) laid the foundation of their popularity and began their acclaimed Reality Dream trilogy, which also includes Second Life Syndrome (2005) and Rapid Eye Movement (2007). These albums brought critical acclaim and opened doors to the international progressive rock scene, where such bands were relatively rare.
After the tragic loss of guitarist Piotr Grudziński in 2016, Riverside did not disband. Instead, they continued creating music, resulting in albums like Love, Fear and the Time Machine (2015), Wasteland (2018), and ID.Entity (2023). New member Maciej Meller joined the band in 2020, bringing fresh energy to their sound and performances.
Riverside's music often explores themes of introspection, existence, and internal struggles. Their complex arrangements and emotionally charged vocals by Mariusz Duda make their songs deeply personal and impactful. The band is also known for powerful live performances that perfectly combine technical skill and energy.
