Rancid is an American punk rock band formed in 1991 in Berkeley, California. It was founded by Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, former members of Operation Ivy, aiming to continue their musical career in a new direction. Along with drummer Brett Reed, the band quickly became an important figure in the punk scene.
Their musical style blends punk rock, ska punk, and street punk, with strong reggae influences. During the 1990s, Rancid was one of the key bands that helped revive mainstream interest in punk rock. They are known for energetic live shows and lyrics often addressing political and social issues.
The band's most famous album is ...And Out Come the Wolves from 1995, featuring hits like "Time Bomb" and "Roots Radicals." After Brett Reed left, Branden Steineckert joined as drummer and remains a member today.
To date, Rancid has released ten studio albums, including the latest Tomorrow Never Comes in 2023. Despite lineup changes and evolution, the band has stayed true to its authentic punk sound and continues to actively perform and produce music.
