Mando Diao is a Swedish rock band formed in Borlänge in the late 1990s, becoming officially active in 1999. The founding members, Björn Dixgård and Gustaf Norén, developed a raw yet melodic sound influenced by garage rock, punk, and classic pop.
Their debut album Bring ’Em In, released in 2002, quickly gained attention across Sweden and Europe with tracks like "Sheepdog" and "Mr Moon". Their follow-up albums Hurricane Bar and Ode to Ochrasy solidified their place on the international indie rock scene.
In 2009, the band achieved commercial breakthrough with the album Give Me Fire! featuring the hit "Dance With Somebody", which expanded their global audience. They later experimented with electronic influences, most notably on the 2014 album Ælita.
A defining moment came in 2012 with the release of Infruset, their first album entirely in Swedish, where they set the poetry of Gustaf Fröding to music. The record resonated strongly in their home country and revealed a more introspective side of the band.
Over the years, Mando Diao went through several lineup changes, but continued to evolve while maintaining their energetic live performances and emotional intensity. In 2023, they released Boblikov’s Magical World, a return to their rock roots, introducing a new guitarist to the group.
