Lucky Chops is an instrumental brass-funk band founded in 2006 in New York City by students from Fiorello LaGuardia High School. The group gained fame performing in NYC subway stations before going viral online with mashups like “Funkytown” and “I Got You (I Feel Good).” Their energetic videos led to a full-time touring career across multiple continents.
Musically, Lucky Chops blend brass instrumentation—trumpet, trombone, saxophones, sousaphone—with funk, jazz, pop, and electronic influences. Their performances are marked by fast tempos, improvisational flair, and interactive stage presence. Street performance spontaneity translates seamlessly into polished live shows.
The band's lineup has evolved over the years, featuring more than 50 members in total. The core lineup includes Josh Holcomb (trombone), Joshua Gawel (trumpet), and long‑time saxophonist Daro Behroozi. Former baritone saxophonist Leo Pellegrino left in 2017 to focus on his own project, Too Many Zooz. Since 2021, new members occupy drum and sousaphone roles, ensuring continuity and freshness in their sound.
Discography highlights include studio albums NYC (2015), Lucky Chops (2019), and New Day (2022), as well as the live-oriented Virtue & Vice Sessions EP series—culminating in Vol. 3 (Live) in 2024. Singles such as “Mr. Charles,” “My No. 1,” and “Arvory” showcase their compositional range and rhythmic intensity.
Lucky Chops regularly play festivals and venues worldwide, earning acclaim for their dynamic, high‑energy shows. Beyond performance, they emphasize music education, conducting workshops and clinics to inspire young musicians. Their vibrant brass-driven performances, humor, and infectious groove have solidified their status as modern brass-funk pioneers.
