Jason Joel Desrouleaux, professionally known as Jason Derulo, was born on September 21, 1989, in Miramar, Florida. Showing musical talent from a young age, he wrote his first song at eight and trained extensively in dance styles including ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and theater. As a teenager, he was signed to Beluga Heights and began writing hit songs for other artists.
His solo breakthrough came in 2009 with “Whatcha Say”, followed by major hits like “In My Head”, “Ridin’ Solo”, “Talk Dirty”, “Wiggle”, and “Want to Want Me”, blending catchy pop, R&B, and urban styles with danceable beats. His third album Talk Dirty (2014) cemented his global success.
After releasing Everything Is 4 (2015), Derulo parted ways with Warner in 2020 and experienced a career resurgence with the viral hit “Savage Love”, sparked by TikTok. In February 2024, he released Nu King, his first studio album in nearly nine years, featuring collaborations with Meghan Trainor, Michael Bublé, and Dido. He also ventured into acting with the film Spinning Gold (2023) and became a judge on The Voice Australia (2023), expanding his role in the music industry.
Derulo is one of TikTok’s most-followed musicians and continues to innovate. In June 2025 he released a stand-alone single “You DJ, I’ll Drive”, and is currently touring the globe on his extensive The Last Dance world tour.
He became a father on May 8, 2021, welcoming son Jason King Derulo with model Jena Frumes. Though their relationship ended, they maintain a healthy co-parenting partnership.
