Imminence is a Swedish metalcore band formed in 2009 in Trelleborg. The group consists of vocalist and violinist Eddie Berg, guitarist Harald Barrett, guitarist Alex Arnoldsson, and bassist Christian Höijer. Their music has been described as metalcore, melodic metalcore, alternative rock, post-hardcore, atmospheric metalcore, symphonic metalcore, and “violincore.” The violin played by Berg alongside his vocals has become one of the distinctive elements of the band’s sound.
Berg and Barrett formed the band in 2009, while the name Imminence was chosen in 2010. Arnoldsson and Peter Hanström joined the lineup in 2012. That same year, the band released its debut EP, Born of Sirius, and was selected to perform at Sweden’s Metaltown Festival. In 2013, Imminence signed with We Are Triumphant Records and released its second EP, Return to Helios, along with the single “Wine & Water.”
The band’s debut studio album, I, was released in 2014 and was accompanied by a series of music videos filmed by Eddie Berg. In 2015, Imminence signed with Arising Empire and released the single “The Sickness.” The 2017 album This Is Goodbye marked a stylistic shift toward alternative rock and pop rock, while the band returned to a heavier sound with Turn the Light On in 2019. An acoustic version of the album followed in 2020.
In 2021, Imminence released the single “Temptation,” followed by the announcement of a European tour. Their fourth studio album, Heaven in Hiding, was released in November of that year, with a deluxe edition following in 2023. During 2023 and 2024, the band released a series of singles before issuing their fifth studio album, The Black, on 12 April 2024 as a self-released album. A European tour was announced that year, followed by a North American tour scheduled for 2025.
In December 2024, Imminence released The Reclamation of I, a re-recording of their debut album. In March 2025, they followed it with The Return of The Black, an extended edition of The Black. Drummer Peter Hanström left the band in September 2025. In 2026, Imminence entered a new phase with “The Sword That Never Bends,” their first release through Sumerian Records, followed by “False Light” and “Crestfallen.” Their sixth studio album, Axis Mundi, was announced for release on 2 October 2026.
