GusGus is an Icelandic electronic music collective formed in 1995 in Reykjavík. Although they started as a film and acting collective, they quickly shifted focus to music, creating an eclectic blend of techno, house, trip hop, and ambient music. Their musical style is characterized by rich production, emotional vocals, and a strong visual element.
The band's name comes from the 1974 German film Ali: Fear Eats the Soul, in which a character pronounces the word "couscous" as "Gusgus." The members prefer to call themselves an art collective or circus rather than a traditional band.
Over the years, the collective has seen many lineup changes, but key members have remained consistent. Their musical repertoire includes numerous albums, and they are known for energetic and visually rich live performances.
