Goran Karan is a Croatian singer and songwriter born on April 2, 1964, in Belgrade, and artistically associated with Split. He is widely recognized as one of the most distinctive voices in Croatian pop music, known for his powerful tenor voice and songs influenced by Dalmatian musical traditions.
He began his musical career in the early 1980s, performing with bands such as Epicentar, Zippo, and Big Blue. As the lead singer of Big Blue, he gained wider recognition, particularly after the song “Priznaj mi” was named rock hit of the year in the mid-1990s. In 1997, he transitioned to a solo career.
In 1998, he won the Zadarfest festival with the song “Kazna mi je što te ljubim,” marking his breakthrough as a solo artist. His debut album Kao da te ne volim was released in 1999 and became one of the best-selling albums in Croatia that year. His collaboration with composer Zdenko Runjić played a key role in shaping his early solo success and brought him numerous awards.
In 2000, Karan represented Croatia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2000 with the song “Kad zaspu anđeli,” after winning the national selection Dora. He finished ninth in the competition, further increasing his international recognition.
Throughout his career, he has released several successful albums, including Vagabundo, Ahoj!, Od srca do usana, and Dite ljubavi. His music is often characterized by emotional depth and a strong Mediterranean atmosphere rooted in Dalmatian tradition.
