Ana Poznanović is a comedian and author who entered the world of stand-up comedy following the publication of her novel “Vrati se mami, siso”. The novel focuses on a young woman’s unsuccessful struggle with Balkan social values, relationships with “mummy’s boys” and her own dysfunctional family. Her creative approach is based on an open and direct exploration of women’s experiences, love, relationships and the challenge of finding one’s own identity within expectations imposed by society.
After establishing herself as a writer, Poznanović expanded her artistic expression through solo one-woman shows, attracting both female and male audiences. Her performances address relationships between men and women and familiar situations from everyday life without embellishment, relying on humour, personal experience and a deliberately uncompromising honesty. This approach has become one of the defining characteristics of her public performances.
One of her notable productions is “Ako sam žena nisam konj”, a comic and honest story about a woman who, while searching for the right partner, sometimes loses herself along the way. The performance follows the maturation of a young woman from her first experience of falling in love to the appearance of her first wrinkles, while simultaneously exploring her search for love and her journey towards accepting herself.
The production was also performed in Čakovec, where it attracted a large audience at the Cultural Centre in February 2022. Despite the rainy Tuesday evening, the audience came to see Poznanović and responded warmly to her combination of comedy and personal storytelling. The performance is structured as a solo show in which she uses humour to address experiences familiar to many people, particularly those involving love, relationships and expectations about life.
At the centre of her work is the female experience viewed through humour, self-irony and an open discussion of subjects that are often left unspoken. Her stories begin with personal situations but transform them into universal comic moments in which audiences from different generations can recognise themselves.
By combining literature and stand-up comedy, Ana Poznanović has developed an artistic voice characterised by directness and openness. Her performances go beyond conventional comedy, offering personal stories about growing up, love, mistakes, family relationships and the process of learning to accept oneself.
