Alen Vitasović is a Croatian singer and songwriter born on July 5, 1968, in Pula. He is considered one of the most recognizable musicians from the Istrian region, with much of his music connected to his homeland and the Chakavian dialect. Throughout his career, he became known for blending pop and traditional Istrian influences, creating songs that marked the Croatian music scene during the 1990s and beyond.
He became involved in music at an early age. Vitasović learned to play the harmonica as a child and performed alongside his father Anton “Tone Livi,” a well-known Istrian accordion player, at weddings and local events across Istria. After graduating from music school in Pula, where he studied piano and saxophone, he continued performing with various bands in Croatia and Slovenia. In the early 1990s, he launched his solo career and quickly gained popularity.
He achieved major success with songs such as Ne moren bež nje, Jenu noć, Niš mi se ne da, and Gušti su gušti, which established him as one of the best-known artists of Istrian and Croatian popular music. During his career he received numerous festival awards, and in 1995 he was nominated for five Porin music awards. In 1997, he was awarded the Order of Danica Hrvatska with the image of Marko Marulić for his contribution to Croatian music and culture.
Vitasović collaborated with artists including Crvena jabuka, Hari Rončević, and Lisa Hunt, while remaining active through concerts, festivals, and new releases. He is recognized for emotional performances, a strong regional identity, and a close connection with audiences, especially in Istria and the Kvarner region.
