Vila Bedeković in Varaždin was built in 1827 as the residence of Dr. Vilim Müller, a prominent city physician and one of the initiators of the city promenade. In 1874, the villa was redesigned in a classical style by the godfather of Ban Koloman Bedeković. The building features carved stucco decorations and medallion frescoes, including depictions of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, a symbol of education and wisdom.
Located on the edge of Varaždin’s historic core, the villa is near the city park and major cultural institutions. It currently houses the children’s department of the City Library, making it a vital educational and cultural space for the local community.
Its courtyard and garden serve as an open-air stage for music and theatre events. During the Špancirfest, the venue hosts concerts by renowned artists and performances by domestic and international theatre groups. Vila Bedeković has thus become a key cultural landmark, blending historical heritage with vibrant modern creativity.
