Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture is one of Slovenia’s leading contemporary cultural venues. Located in Ljubljana, it operates in a building constructed in 1961 and designed by architect Božidar Gvardjančič, considered an important example of modernist architecture. Originally a cinema, the venue gradually evolved into a dynamic center for urban culture, while the public institution was officially established in 2008. Since 2009, Kino Šiška has developed an extensive programme of contemporary music, visual arts, and performing arts, hosting more than 300 events and over 100,000 visitors annually. The venue includes the large Katedrala Hall, the smaller Komuna Hall, the Kamera exhibition space, and a café that functions as a social gathering point. Kino Šiška is also recognised for projects and festivals such as MENT Ljubljana, CoFestival, Tinta, and Špil liga. Through international collaborations and support for emerging artists, it has become an important part of the regional and European cultural landscape.
