Ernst Happel Stadium is the largest stadium in Austria and one of Vienna’s most significant venues for sports and large-scale events. Located in the Leopoldstadt district, the stadium was built between 1929 and 1931 based on a design by architect Otto Ernst Schweizer for the Second Workers’ Olympiad. Originally known as Praterstadion, it was renamed in 1992 in honor of Austrian football player and coach Ernst Happel. With a seating capacity of more than 50,000, the stadium serves as the home venue of the Austrian national football team. As a UEFA Category 4 stadium, it has hosted numerous major international events, including the UEFA Euro 2008 Final. Over the decades, the venue has also staged several European Cup and UEFA Champions League finals, alongside concerts and other sporting events. Renovated in 1986 and again in 2008, Ernst Happel Stadium remains one of Austria’s most recognizable landmarks for international sports and entertainment events.
