Hugh Laurie

James Hugh Calum Laurie was born on June 11, 1959, in Oxford, England. He grew up in a family of doctors and athletes—his father was an Olympic gold medalist in rowing. Laurie also trained in rowing but turned to acting due to illness during his studies at Cambridge University, where he joined and later led the renowned Footlights drama club. There, he met Stephen Fry, forming one of Britain’s most beloved comedic partnerships. Laurie and Fry collaborated on several successful projects, including the sketch show A Bit of Fry & Laurie and the classic adaptation Jeeves and Wooster. He also starred in Blackadder and made numerous appearances on British television. His international breakthrough came with the role of Dr. Gregory House in the American series House M.D., which aired from 2004 to 2012. His portrayal of the brilliant but emotionally troubled doctor earned him multiple awards, including Golden Globes, and made him one of the highest-paid television actors of the time. Beyond acting, Hugh Laurie is a skilled musician. He plays the piano, guitar, harmonica, and drums. He released two well-received blues albums – Let Them Talk and Didn’t It Rain. He is also the author of the novel The Gun Seller. In recognition of his contributions to drama, he was appointed an Officer and later Commander of the Order of the British Empire (OBE and CBE). In 2016, he was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has been married to Jo Green since 1989, and they have three children together.
