FM4 Frequency Festival, commonly called Frequency, is a music festival founded in 2001 in Austria. It originally took place in Vienna, then near Salzburg until 2008, before relocating in 2009 to St. Pölten. The festival is affiliated with the Austrian radio station FM4 and is known for showcasing the more alternative side of mainstream music.
The festival lineup spans a wide range of genres—rock, electronic, hip hop, indie, alternative and guitar-pop are commonly featured. Alongside big international headliners, Frequency regularly includes smaller, experimental, and up-and-coming acts, offering a varied musical experience for its audience.
Held in summer (July or August), Frequency runs over several days and offers camping options, multiple ticket types (standard, VIP, and special packages), and excellent transport connections. Its setting by the river and in green surroundings contributes to the ambiance, giving festivalgoers a mix of musical immersion and connection with nature.
Over the years, Frequency has built a strong reputation among alternative music fans in Central Europe. It is celebrated not just for its star acts and large attendance, but for the sense of community it fosters. The festival is more than just performances—it’s an experience of discovery, energy, and diversity, making it one of the standout summer music festivals in the region.
