David Byrne and Brian Eno are two giants of pop music. Of course, their songs are on the program of David Byrne’s latest tour. The sensational tour has just started and will also take Byrne to Austria for two concerts in July: July 11 in Vienna, Arena Open Air, and July 16 in Graz, Kassematen Open Air!
A founding member of the “Talking Heads,” the born Scotsman was initiated to the Mount Olympus of pop music and became an American icon of new wave and post-punk in the late 70s. In 1977, the Talking Heads wrote the cult hit “Psycho Killer.” On their second album, the Talking Heads worked together with Brian Eno, a close collaboration that was to last until 1980 (Remain in the Light) and that culminated in the ingenious David Byrne/Brian Eno solo album “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts” (1981).
Brian Eno is an exception in the world of pop music as well: in 1971, he was among the founding members of “Roxy Music.” From 1976 to 1979, he excelled as the producer of David Bowie’s Berlin trilogy (Low / Heroes / Lodger), and subsequently worked with the Talking Heads, U2 (Eno produced their mega sellers “The Unforgettable Fire,” “The Joshua Tree,” “Achtung Baby” and “Zooropa”) and Coldplay (Viva la Vida, 2008).
Almost 30 years after “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts,” Byrne and Eno decided to collaborate on a new project. Last winter saw the release of “Everything that happens will happen today,” an album that was greeted with rave reviews.
On his “David Byrne – Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno” tour, Byrne will present the songs of his numerous collaborations with Brian Eno live. Songs from the three Talking Heads albums produced by Brian Eno, from their co-production “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts” and from the new Byrne/Eno album “Everything That Happens Will Happen Today” form part of the concert program.
David Byrne has announced: “The live shows will try to draw a line linking this new material with what we did 30 years ago.”
