LP (Laura Pergolizzi), born March 18, 1981 in Huntington Station, New York, is an American singer-songwriter known for her powerful, raspy voice and emotionally rich songs. She began performing in New York City clubs, teaching herself piano, ukulele, and harmonica along the way, before releasing her debut album Heart‑Shaped Scar in 2001.
Despite early acclaim, LP spent the next decade working behind the scenes, writing songs for major artists such as Rihanna, Christina Aguilera, and Backstreet Boys. In 2012 she released her own EP Into the Wild, gaining traction after the title track was featured in a commercial.
Her breakthrough came in 2016 with the seismic hit “Lost on You,” which became a multi-platinum international success. This track propelled her to global recognition and marked a turning point in her career. LP continued to evolve, releasing albums like Forever for Now (2014), Heart to Mouth (2018), Churches (2021), and most recently Love Lines (2023), exploring a range of musical styles from alt-rock to melancholic pop and blues‑infused balladry.
LP is acclaimed for introspective songwriting exploring themes of love, heartbreak, identity, and vulnerability. Her vocal style is distinct—combining smoky alto tones, soft falsetto, and signature whistle embellishments. Her live performances are known for their intimate energy, audience connection, and ukulele-driven authenticity.
Openly LGBTQ+, LP began using they/them pronouns in 2021, aligning with their non-binary identity and commitment to representation and activism in the queer community. LP continues to tour internationally, write music for herself and others, and remains a compelling voice in modern pop-rock storytelling.
